Two days, presurgery

We are taking Pogo, our 7 year old shepherd/lab mix, to have his front leg amputated in just 2 days. It’s scary, but I’ve been reading many articles and some of your blogs to prepare me. I think the surgery will extend his life and give him many pain-free happy days ahead. I know the recovery will be hard but am prepared to do my best to keep him as comfortable as possible. I’m glad to have this forum to share his recovery with others who have, or are having, this experience too!

  2. Awww we are glad you found us too! I’m sorry you had to, however. What is the reason for Pogo’s amputation?

Be sure to check out our Discussion Forums too, hope to see you there! Keep us posted.

  3. Pogo’s surgery went smoothly and he will probably be ready to go home this morning! He had bone cancer in a front leg. It had to be removed up to his scapula. I’ve seen lots of pictures of other dogs right out of surgery, so I know what to expect, but I am nervous about how well we can help him get around. I plan on sleeping next to his bed as long as it takes for him to be able to handle his 3 legs without help.
